Gerhart Erikson Recreation Area

In the summer of 2024, Canosia Township reached out to Miller Hill Subaru to apply for funds for a new pavilion for the Gerhart Erikson Recreation Area. This area is next to the Pike Lake Elementary School and the only playground the children have to use. Miller Hill Subaru responded with funds through its Community Partnership and the pavilion was completed in October 2024. This pavilion is utilized by the Proctor Kid Zone Program, the Pike Lake Elementary School, the local Little League and Soccer organizations and by families for picnics and gatherings such as birthday parties, family reunions and graduation gatherings. Canosia Township is extremely grateful for Miller Hill Subaru for their financial support.

Miller Hill Subaru Loves to Care for Blood Cancer Patients

Miller Hill Subaru shared the love and then shared it again! Throughout the month of June, customers of Miller Hill Subaru were invited to write notes of support for local blood cancer patients. On June 26th, Beth Nimens and other Subaru employees brought some of those notes, patient care kits and warm fleece blankets to patients at Aspirus St. Lukeā€™s Hospital in Duluth, MN. Meagan Avery, St. Lukeā€™s Foundation Development Associate, shared the following, ā€œOur Cancer Center Social Workers and Supervisor had such great things to say about this donation and the warmth and comfort they truly provide, and are loved by all who receive them. The blankets and cards are a great demonstration of support during a difficult time. We can attest to this as donors who have been touched by past gifts or similar ones, often feel inspired to give back because of what it meant to them or a loved one.ā€ The Subaru team then drove only a few blocks to arrive at Essentia Health Cancer Center where they shared the remainder of the gift with their patients. Missy, an Essentia employee and parent of a blood cancer survivor, attended the delivery and was appreciative of the support of families dealing with a blood cancer diagnosis. Marketing Director for Miller Hill Subaru, Beth Nimens, said this is one of her favorite partnerships that they take part in throughout the year, stating, ā€œWe feel honored to give and people are so grateful to receive.ā€ The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is so grateful for community partners such as Subaru of America whose generosity enable us to connect more patients with essential resources.

Warmth and Comfort for Patients at Aspirus St. Luke's

The warmth and comfort provided to Aspirus St. Luke's patients through Miller Hill Subaru's "Subaru Loves to Care" event is special to our organization. Facing a cancer diagnosis is life-changing and difficult, but the blankets and cards of hope given to our patients serve as a heartwarming reminder that they are supported and wrapped in love. St. Luke's Foundation is thankful for organizations, like Miller Hill Subaru, who make a positive impact in health care and within our local community. Thank you for your many years of compassionate support.

Subaru helps the Damiano Center afterschool drop in program muster the cold of 2024

The Damiano Center was excited to know, that Miller Hill Subaru reached out to let us know they want to help our Kids Kitchen Drop in program. Subaru Warm Up Event was a success. The kiddos we so happy to to pick the color of their choice, plus having gym shoes and a pair of clean socks to go with. One Child expressed, " Is this for my family too?" This child was so happy in knowing each one in her household (8 Kids) would have their own coats. A set of twins picked their own and were so happy to chose a different color. Subaru and Staff we at the Damiano Center want to thank you for inviting Kids' Kitchen to experience this event and keeping our kids warm and putting smiles on their faces. Also grateful are the parents who otherwise could not afford to buy their kids new coats during these economic times we are living in. This means a lots to the children, parents and Damiano Center for choosing us You kindness is greatly appreciated

Miller Hill Subaru Gave Our Organization a Home

At Best Christmas Ever (BCE), we serve families who have fallen upon tough times, through no fault of their own. BCE partners with local leaders and businesses to bless each BCE family with a custom & unique Best Christmas Ever, tailored to the family situation. For over a decade we were completely virtual without a national headquarters. Now today we just celebrated our one year mark and it has helped us tremendously on many fronts and have made some amazing connections and people that will be friends for a long time. Thank you Miller Hill Subaru!

3rd time is a charm for Dude!

We at Carlton County Animal Rescue are so appreciative of the work done by Beth Nimens and the team at Miller Hill Subaru with the Love a Pet event this fall. We are a newer 501c rescue and this was our first partnership adoption event. We were a bit worried about the logistics initially however Beth walked through detals with us and provided great support. Dude was found as a local stray, and he came to the Dog Day adoption event at Miller Hill Subaru. So many people fell in love with him. He pretty quickly got an application that was in process and someone who was set on adopting, however after several hours this person determined that would not be able to happen, and they instead sponsored his adoption fee. Although he left the event with CCAR and was not adopted, his fee was covered, he had two additional applications, and the THIRD person who applied, who had met him that day, followed up with a meet and greet with their resident dog and with the remaining members of their family. So after 3 applications and then 3 meet and greets with the right family he went HOME and it's a great fit for him. We're so happy for this opportunity. Our fosters and volunteers also loved the chew-barus for the adoptable pups. We look forward to future partnerships.

Miller Hill Subaru Love A Pet Adoption Event

I love this event! It is crucial to our community that this event continues for not only our local animal shelters but for our local animals as well. Itā€™s so great that they are able to find loving, forever homes! Thanks to Miller Hill Subaru and Subaru Loves Pets for continuing to host, year after year!

Sparky Finds A Home!

Sparky was a sweet 1 year old pup who attended the Miller Hill Subaru Love A Pet Event as an adoptable pup from Animal Allies Humane Society. Sparky hasn't had a lot of exposure to new things in her short life, so she takes a while to warm up and get brave. We think this is why she struggled a bit to find her perfect match, An older couple came in to the Subaru Events Dog Day on 10/22 and saw Sparky curled up in the corner. This couple spent over an hour learning about her, slowly taking her for walks and earning her trust. By the end she was curled in their lap and ready to head home. We are so glad she found her happily ever after and think the discounted fee allowed this older couple to welcome her into their lives.

Love A Pet Adoption Event Update!

The Babinski Foundation in Pequot Lakes, MN had the pleasure of participating in Miller Hill Subaru's Loves Pets Adoption Event on October 21st and 22nd, 2023, and we couldn't be more happy for all of the animals that found new loving homes! Our hearts were full as we saw so many longer term shelter dogs and cats start forming bonds with their people. We had 18 cats and 18 dogs find homes through the Loves Pets Adoption Event. Weā€™re so thankful to be part of this event alongside other participating rescues and shelters. What a wonderful opportunity that Miller Hill Subaru provides in order to place so many dogs and cats with their new families! The Loves Pets adoption event helped provide homes for 69 total cats and 38 total dogs!

Miller Hill Subaru and LLS Loves to Care Essentia and St. Luke's

For the eighth consecutive year, our friends at Miller Hill Subaru partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma SocietyĀ® (LLS) to deliver hope and warmth to blood cancer patients at both Essential Health Duluth and St. Lukeā€™s Cancer Centers. LLS staff member Shannon Blake was thrilled to be alongside Beth Nimens, Miller Hill Subaru Marketing Manager, JoHanna from Essentia Health, and Catherine from St. Lukeā€™s to unpack Miller Hill Subaruā€™s generous donation of 80 blankets, 10 patient care kits, and Messages of Hope for families facing cancer in the greater Duluth area. At Essentia Health, we were lucky to meet Roman, an 8-year-old spunky dude! Roman just finished treatment this year and was thrilled to receive a blanket and patient care kit from Miller Hill Subaru to celebrate. He couldnā€™t stop snuggling his blanket and said he would NOT be sharing it with his siblings back home! Thank you so much, Miller Hill Subaru staff, for providing messages of hope and reminding cancer patients that thereā€™s a big community supporting them along their journey! Ā

Mavericks Recovery

Maverick was found on a rural road in August. We didnā€™t know how long he had been on his own, but he certainly looked rough when he came to the shelter, with just one narrow strip of hair left along his spine. The rest of his skin was leathery and flaking, dotted with wounds and scabs, and his ribs showed. Medical staff started testing right away and found the root causes of Maverickā€™s issues: demodectic mange and ringworm. Next, they planned his treatment. In addition to daily medications, Maverick started a diet designed to soothe his irritated skin. All staff helped Maverick through different parts of his treatment, including medicated baths and ointments. Maverick had to be quarantined from the other animals, so kennel staff gowned up to bring him outside for his daily romps. In two months, Maverick had made incredible progress. He had gained almost five pounds and his hair was growing back so fast we noticed a difference over the course of each week. He is going to have the most beautiful coat of jet-black fur! The healthier Maverick felt, the more his personality blossomed. That scared, cowering stray had turned into the cutest goofball at the shelter, who loved people and dogs. Playtime found him at his goofiest: running, chasing, and wrestling with the other pups. When he was feeling calmer, Maverick just wanted pets from people. His love for life was infectious. We feel so lucky we could give this joyful soul a second chance. A lot of people in our town followed his story and loved receiving updates about this progress. Maverick was finally ready for adoption and was able to attend Miller Hill Subaru's Love A Pet event on 10/30/22. This sweet boy was the first dog adopted that day and we couldn't be happier!

Finding Furrever Homes!

The Babinski Foundation in Pequot Lakes, MN collaborated with Miller Hill Subaru to put on an adoption event on August 17th, 2022. The hope was to bring awareness to our non-profit shelter and help some of our adoptable animals find their furrever homes! At the event we were able to find homes for two of our dogs and raise money to help run our shelter. With our donations we help provide our cats and dogs with a comfortable temporary home, all vet care including spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchipping. At our event in August we also offered a microchip clinic for owners to bring their cats or dogs in to get a microchip which helps increase their chance of making it home after getting lost by more than 52%. We were able to help 10 animals get microchips, two find their furrever homes, and raise money for our shelter thanks to the generous help from Miller Hill Subaru, their wonderful location, and willingness to help the community. We hope to continue our partnership with Miller Hill Subaru to bring awareness to our shelter and the good they do as a business!

Miller Hill Subaru supports City On the Hill Music Festival!

Since 2016 Miller Hill Subaru has been a major sponsor of the City On the Hill Music Festival - a 2 day Christian music festival set at beautiful Bayfront Park on the shores of the greatest of lakes - Lake Superior. Coming up on it's eighth year in 2023, headliners are Casting Crowns and Crowder. "We couldn't have pulled off this event without the financial support of the fine folks at Miller Hill Subaru!", said Walt Aplin, co-founder and CEO of the event. "They are truly a blessing and have been so awesome to work with!" More details about the festival can be found on their web site - cityonthehillmusicfest.com

Miller Hill Subaru - a great supporter of local cancer patients

For the 7th year in a row, Miller Hill Subaru partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to deliver warmth and hope to cancer patients in the Duluth area. As a staple in the community, Miller Hill Subaru staff choose to split their blankets evenly among both hospitals in the city taking care of patients ā€“ St. Lukeā€™s Cancer Center and Essentia Health. LLS staff arrived at St. Lukeā€™s and were greeted by Honored Hero Emma and her mom Amanda, longtime LLS supporters who recently relocated to Duluth. Emma is an acute lymphoblastic leukemia survivor celebrating her fourth year out of treatment! She was excited to both receive a blanket of her own (one that her three siblings arenā€™t allowed to steal!) and to hand a few out to patients waiting for treatment that day. ā€œGiving just feels good!ā€ Next up, we headed to the Essentia Health Cancer Center, where their hematology/oncology staff warmly greeted us. From social workers to nurses to doctors, everyone came out to express thanks to Miller Hill Subaru staff for their generosity to so many patients. Mom Amanda expressed how much it means to their family to be able to give back after they themselves were recipients of kindness like Subaruā€™s when they were in treatment. She says ā€œIt meant so much to receive a bit of joy while sitting around a hospital for days on end. Weā€™re grateful that we got to play a part in that today thanks to Miller Hill Subaru.ā€ These opportunities to connect cancer survivors and medical professionals with generous community partners are so meaningful to each of us! Thank you, Miller Hill Subaru, for bringing us together to support cancer patients in Duluth!

CHA adopts out 40 pets at Subaru Love a Pet Event

Chequamegon Humane Association was thrilled to attend Miller Hill Subaruā€™s ā€œLove a Petā€ Adoption event for the first time this year. Usually CHA has our biggest fundraiser of the year happening the same weekend as this event, and as such, we have never been able to attend this event before. This year, our fundraiser was canceled because of Covid-19. So when Beth reached out to us to see if we wanted to attend this year, we decided to go for it! We are a small shelter in Northern Wisconsin, and the fall and winter is usually our slowest time of the year. We werenā€™t sure how to make this event work for us. We typically do not do same day adoptions. So this was a total switch up from our usual. Beth was so helpful with answering all of our questions and giving us advice as first-timers to this event. We brought 32 cats with us on Saturday. Our process for picking these 32 cats was, if they were ready to be adopted, they were coming with us. We brought all of our long-term resident cats, our fearful cats, our older cats, etc. We were simply hoping that some of the long-term residents would find homes. We were beyond blown away when at the end of the day, we had adopted out all 32 cats. We couldnā€™t believe it. We decided to bring 10 dogs with us on Sunday. Eight of those ten dogs were able to be adopted that day. We were amazed at the end of the day when all 8 of those dogs were adopted. We are so thankful to Beth and the staff at Miller Hill Subaru. Their dedication to this event shows. Those are new record numbers for adoptions for CHA and could not have happened without the generosity, care, and help from those in charge of this event! Because of this event, CHA was then able to move forward with helping more cats and dogs in need. We were able to make wonderful connections with the other shelters and vendors attending the event as well. We will definitely be back again next year and look forward to seeing you all again. Thank you to Beth Nimens and the staff at Miller Hill Subaru for all of your hard work. This event was incredible, and we are so thankful to have gotten to be a part of it this year. Thank you to all the adopters who attended and gave an animal a chance at a wonderful new home and family.

2021 Subaru Love a Pet Event

Our relationship with Miller Hill Subaru has always been wonderful, we love working with the staff and especially Beth Nimens. One of our favorite collaborations is our annual Subaru Love-a-pet event, held each fall. We partner with Miller Hill Subaru and other local shelters to put on a two day, large scale off-site adoption event in an effort to ā€œclear the sheltersā€. This event has been tremendously successful in the past and is a community favorite. With the help of Subaru and a grant from the ASPCA we are able to offer subsidized adoption fees for the event. We are happy to report that this year we were able to hold the event in person, with social distancing and masks strongly reccomended. We had a gangbuster year with 107 animals finding homes. Animal welfare from throughout the region was represented: The Babinski Foundation of Pequot Lakes; Contented Critters, based in Makinen, MN; Lake County Humane Society from Two Harbors; and Ashland, WIā€™s Chequamegon Humane Association. It feels good to share the love with our neighbor shelters as well. The major success story from this year is Omar. Omar is a 12 year old, yellow lab mix. Omar was one of our long term residents, having been with us for over 2 months. He needed an extensive dental including having several teeth extracted and masses removed. No one at the shelter could figure out why he hadnā€™t been adopted, he was the sweetest old guy with plenty of love to give. He loves other dogs, cats, kids and playing fetch. He met his perfect match on the ā€œdog dayā€ of our event and is now living his best life!

The Babinski Foundation Adopts out 42 Pets

The Babinski Foundation Animal Shelter was happy to attend Miller Hill Subaruā€™s ā€œLove a Petā€ Adoption Drive on November 6 and 7 in Duluth, Minnesota. We successfully found homes for 19 dogs and 23 cats over the weekend due to the kindness of Miller Hill Subaru. We are a private 501c3 Non-Profit Shelter and Animal Rescue located in Pequot Lakes Minnesota with the capacity to house and care for over 100 cats and 100 dogs in our facility. Being one of the largest shelters in our small community we have felt the effects of oversaturation in our area, especially due to increased adoption interest during the COVID-19 pandemic. Without the support of our Northern neighbors, we would not be able to rehome these animals and make space in our shelter. The Babinski Foundation is considered a ā€œno-killā€ shelter, meaning we never euthanize for length of stay or lack of space. To date we maintain a 98% live release rate of our animals. During the event we were so blown away by the support and enthusiasm that we received from Beth Nimens and all the staff at Miller Hill Subaru. Without their dedication to community and pets we would not have found forever, loving homes for 42 of our animals. Because of their help and generosity in coordinating, publicizing and hosting the ā€œLove a Petā€ Adoption Drive we can now welcome new animals in need to our facility and we can watch deserving homeless pets become a part of new loving families.

A Big Hug and a Thank You

COVID-19 presented a complex crisis of increased demand, declines in donations of food and disruptions to the charitable food assistance systems. It is because companies like Subaru, that we have been able to meet these challenges head-on and continue to provide food to our hungry neighbors like Steve who said, ā€œI wish we could give everyone who is helping us a big hug and say thank you for your kindness because we would not make it without them.ā€ Thank you for supporting Second Harvest North Central Food Bank.

Miller Hill Subaru supports nature!

Miller Hill Subaru has been a longtime partner and supporter of Hartley Nature Center and Hartley Nature Preschool. Hartleyā€™s mission is to inspire lifelong connections with nature through education, play and exploration. In addition to providing over 62,000 hours of programming last year to people from throughout the region, we work to improve the long-term health of Hartley Park through tree planting, invasive species removal, and trail improvements. Our partnership with Miller Hill Subaru is a natural fit because they live out their environmental values by working to reduce waste and supporting the preservation of our natural spaces. Support from Miller Hill Subaru helped beautify our nature play area through the planting of trees and the installation of a small pollinator garden. This space is a beloved play spot of our preschoolers and summer campers. In addition to our tree planting efforts, support over the years from Miller Hill Subaru has help us break down barriers to participation in our longstanding school field trip program, which serves over 25 schools throughout the region. I am inspired by Miller Hill Subaruā€™s commitment to a host of non-profits and worthy causes in our community, especially during these challenging times. Recently, they sponsored Environmental Education Week during our monthlong We Heart Hartley awareness campaign. Business and event sponsorship assist our efforts to keep fees low in our school field trip, outreach and camp programs. In addition, it also supports scholarship funds for our camp and preschool programs. This ensures that all schools, kids and families are able to participate. Long may the woods ring out with the laughter and play of joyful children. Through providing programs and services that connect people with nature and helping to instill a love of nature, we are improving the mental and physical health of our community. Our partnership with Miller Hill Subaru over the years has been a blessing to Hartley Nature Center and our mission of inspiring lifelong connections with nature. Subaru "Love-A-Pet" Adoption Event

This year, as you can imagine things are quite different and we have gone to a virtual event format. We are still adopting out a significant amount of animals and helping to promote other shelters. Itā€™s not quite the same as we are lacking the excitement and community engagement of a full event but the end result is still sending animals home. One story from this year that I would like to highlight is Dullahan. Dullahan came to us from our local animal control with significant hair loss and at first we did not know exactly why. Our medical team dug in and did their thing, which resulted in his diagnosis of atopic dermatitis or skin allergies. Dullahan ended up spending a significant amount of time with us due to his medical needs but was finally adopted on October 11th after spending 219 days at the shelter. Dullahan, now called Binx has settled in nicely to his new home and is well loved. We recently received an update stating ā€œhe is making himself at homeā€ which makes us smile from ear to ear. This adoption event allows us to place more animals like Dullahan for which we are extremely grateful. This is all possible because of our relationship with Beth and Miller Hill Subaru.

Healthcare for Widlife in the Northland

Miller Hill Subaru chose Wildwoods as its local non-profit organization for the 2019-2020 Share the Love Campaign. They raised an astounding $15,536.52 for our work! Wildwoods is the second largest wildlife rehabilitation facility in the state of Minnesota, and the only non-profit rehabilitation facility in the Duluth area. We serve over 30 counties annually and accept all sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, and run entirely on donations. If we cannot care for the animal in our clinic and nursery, we provide emergency stabilization and safe and secure transport to another facility that can. In 2019, we had 1,747 animals come to our facility. We had the same experience at Wildwoods that many other non-profits and small businesses have had once COVID-19 hit our communities. Our fundraising efforts were deeply impacted as we had to cancel several public fundraising events. Whereas before the crisis hit, we would have used these funds for special projects, we instead placed them in our general funds to be used for animal care and food, staff salaries, and infrastructure upgrades. We are thankful to Miller Hill Subaru for their efforts on our behalf and for helping us with crucial funds during this trying time. We were happy to extend our own hand to Miller Hill Subaru a couple of weeks ago by retrieving an injured snapping turtle that they found on their dealership property!

Spreading Hope & Comfort At Two Hospitals

On July 30, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society partnered with Miller Hill Subaru for the fourth year in a row to deliver blankets, craft kits, and personalized messages of hope to cancer patients in the Duluth community through the Subaru Loves to Care program. Miller Hill Subaru has a reputation around town for truly supporting their local community, so it was no surprise when they split their donation between two hospitals so as to truly ā€œshare the love.ā€ The first stop of the day was to Essentia Health ā€“Duluth Cancer Clinic, where leukemia survivor Melissa (Missy) Rock and her daughter Angel accepted a blanket on behalf of LLS and Essentia. Missy was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia eleven years ago when she was pregnant with Angel. She had to live in the hospital for four months while receiving treatment, so she said any piece of comfort such as a blanket made the world of difference for her. After spreading the love at Essentia, the entire group of Miller Hill Subaru staff, LLS staff, and Missy and Angel went down the road to St. Lukeā€™s Hospital to deliver blankets to their patients as well. The St. Lukeā€™s Cancer Center staff were so welcoming and grateful for the donation, and Missy was able to thank their social workers personally for taking such good care of their patients. Many thanks to Miller Hill Subaru, Essentia and St. Lukeā€™s not only for such a memorable day together, but for supporting LLSā€™s mission to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. But our biggest thanks goes to Missyā€“for inspiring us every day and for her genuine desire to give back to other cancer patients.

#SubaruLovesToCare with LLS

On Wednesday, July 11, 2018, as part of the National Subaru Loves to Care program, Miller Hill Subaru worked with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to deliver blankets, cards of hope, and arts and crafts kits to patients at Essentia Health and St. Lukeā€™s in Duluth, Minnesota. Beth Nimens, as well as several employees of the Miller Hill Dealership, came to represent Subaru at the two hospitals. They lit up the room when they brought in the gifts and were excited with the opportunity to hand them out to patients at thehospital Two young patients, Bennett and Liam, agreed to be the patient ambassadors and accepted the blankets on behalf of Duluth patients. Bennett is a two year old who was diagnosed in August 2017 with pre-B acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Fortunately, Bennett is responding well to his treatment. He has to be in active treatment for a total of 3.5 years, which will end just in time to send him off to school. His mom says, ā€œHe will have more under his belt than the average kindergartener!ā€ Liam is in a similar situation as Bennett. Liam was diagnosed with leukemia in September 2015, just before his second birthday. He has since completed over two and a half years of treatment and will finish at the end of the year. Liam is leading the way for Bennett to follow in his footsteps to health. The two boys were especially excited to get an art and craft kit from Beth and her team. They instantly opened them up and started pulling out everything that was inside. Liam and Bennett were all smiles and very happy with the visit from Subaru. The hospitals were also extremely grateful for Subaruā€™s commitment to showing support for cancer patients. Thank you, Miller Hill!!

Going the extra mile isn't just a slogan.

How to start?? (And where to finish?!) For many years, Animal Allies Humane Society has benefitted from a generous partnership with Miller Hill Subaru. The people at Miller Hill have helped with vehicle maintenance for our transport car, serious part repair and replacement at very limited cost (sometimes no cost!) to our organization, and years of support through sponsorship of Animal Allies events- big and small. Miller Hill Subaru truly outdid themselves with their generosity in support of Animal Allies' mission to ensure a loving home for every pet in 2017.The most recent example was Subaru's annual "Love A Pet" adoption event. Starting mid-Summer, the staff at Subaru and Animal Allies began the many hours of planning it takes to organize a successful adoption event. Subaru's own Marketing Director, Beth Nimens, invested hours of her time- soliciting local partner animal shelters and rescue groups to bring their animals to the event, organizing pet-oriented vendors, and assisting our planning committee with any need that would arise. Through Subaru, Beth invested in a wide-spread marketing campaign to promote the event throughout the community - television, radio, and print! Above and beyond all of this, Miller Hill Subaru really went the extra mile to make the annual 'Love A Pet' adoption event (November, 2017) shine for homeless pets this year- sponsoring the fee to cover a transport of homeless shelter dogs from Dallas, TX through local southern rescue group Rockwall Pets. These dogs were in shelters long before hurricane season hit the South, and this was their last chance at finding a new loving home. Upon arriving at Animal Allies in Duluth, MN, the dogs found foster families greeting them with open arms. Coordinating and funding a transport like this is no small feat, and Miller Hill's sponsorship made it possible to save the lives of over 20 additional dogs! The week of the event arrived. Subaru staff invested time and energy in preparing their building for the event- cleaning, mopping, scrubbing, and hanging event signage. Animal Allies staff and two additional participating rescue groups descended upon the space- literally taking over the building for the entire weekend. Tables were set and spaces arranged. The microchipping clinic space was assembled. Vendors arrived and set up displays to sell their wares. Crates of cats and kennels of dogs looking for their future families would soon fill the building. To say that the "Love A Pet" event is a community oriented event would be an understatement. This event affects the lives of homeless pets in and out of our local Duluth area- spreading to northern Minnesota into Two Harbors and up further into Grand Rapids. Local crafters and business people have a space to showcase their craft and skills - providing a platform to meet new clients, share their love for animals, and grow their small businesses. Owned animals receive microchips so they can be returned to their owners should they become lost or separated - helping return stray pets to their homes where they belong, with their families. Families arrive with their pets to have their annual photo with Santa created for their Christmas Cards - all of which is provided by local photographer, Ted Thompson (The Duluth Camera Exchange) who has provided this service for Animal Allies for over 16 years. Everything Miller Hill Subaru provides for our shelter, the rescue groups, vendors, and businesses is done FREE of charge. Not one dollar is spent by our rescues on booth space, table rental, or rental of the building. Talk about truly above and beyond. The "Love A Pet" event IS part of the fabric of our community. Neighbors and friends look forward to it year after year - several traveling from afar each year for their annual Santa photo and dose of Duluth! Duluth is lucky to have a dealership, and the amazing people who make up the fabric of their team, like Miller Hill Subaru in our community. Animal Allies Humane Society is thankful for our partnership with Miller Hill Subaru and grateful for the lives we are able to save thanks to their on-going support. Oh, yes. And where to finish... We are proud to share that, thanks to the support Miller Hill Subaru invested into this year's event, more than 100 shelter pets found new loving families, over 60 microchips were provided for owned family pets, and we enjoyed record setting numbers for photos with Santa in 2017! Thanks to the extended marketing campaign sponsored by Subaru, the event saw record attendance for BOTH days of the adoption event- prompting one rescue group to quickly arrange to bring additional cats down for the second day. All of whom were adopted. Thank you, Subaru. Thank you to the good people at Miller Hill Subaru for all you do. Your generosity has made a difference for so many lives - both the furry AND the loving families who are so happy to have a new family member to call their own.

Cancer Group gifted Miller Hill Subaru donation

For the second year in a row Miller Hill Subaru spread love, hope and warmth to cancer patients and their families alongside The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Minnesota Chapter. This June, customers visiting Ward Muscatell were given the chance to write personalized messages of hope to patients in their local community. Those care cards were then handed out alongside a blanket to provide comfort and warmth to patients during their cancer journey. This years' event was particularly touching for LLS, as Miller Hill Subaru chose a very special hospital connection for their donation. For over 20 years, Essentia Health has been home to an LLS Support Group comprised of patients, survivors, and caregivers that meet together once a month. The group provides blood cancer education, mutual support, and offers the opportunity to discuss anxieties and concerns with others who share similar experiences. Support groups are an important piece of the full patient assistance offerings that LLS provides free of charge to those living with blood cancer. A handful of the LLS support group members joined Miller Hill Subaru, LLS staff, & Essentia on Tuesday, July 11 to proudly accept the blankets on LLS's behalf. "When you have chemo you are often very cold, so blankets are an excellent idea and it's very much appreciated," AML survivor Charlene Buescher stated in an interview that day. We couldn't agree more -- thank you, Miller Hill Subaru, for your generosity!

Miller Hill Subaru supports local animal shelters.

Every fall, Miller Hill Subaru and their staff are instrumental hosts for the annual 'Love A Pet' adoption event here in Duluth, MN. Subaru provides the space for the event on site at the dealership, advertising and promotion of the event in our community, and goes above and beyond throughout the planning process meeting with our staff multiple times to make sure the event runs smoothly. Each year this event includes other local area shelters and rescue groups and local animal-related vendors. It is known throughout the community as the largest adoption event in Duluth. Animal Allies Adoption Program Manager, Keri Heise, says, "We could not do this event with out the help of Miller Hill Subaru. Subaru teams up with the ASPCA to provide grant funding which allows for subsidized adoption fees during the event. This allows us to offer very low cost adoptions here in the Duluth community." Keri goes on to add, "The staff at Subaru are very kind and helpful. You can tell they really care about helping the animals and the local shelters." Because of the 'Love-a-pet' adoption event and all of the support from Miller Hill Subaru, we are able to find loving homes for shelter pets from across the region.

Miller Hill Subaru delivers hope to St. Luke's

On July 6, Beth Albrecht, LLS Ambassador, accepted 60 donated blankets from Miller Hill Subaru on behalf of cancer patients currently being treated at St. Lukeā€™s Hospital. A year ago, Beth was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Before having cancer, she had been healthy her whole life. ā€œThe news was terrifying and changes your life forever,ā€ she explains. Her treatment consisted of six rounds of chemotherapy at St. Lukeā€™s Hospital. Each treatment meant six days in the hospital. ā€œThe first time, I was terrified,ā€ she says, ā€œbut my family was great ā€“ they just jumped into action ā€“ it was hard but we did it.ā€ Beth goes on to say that by the end of her treatment, she felt more like a regular guest checking into a comfy hotel, ā€œI felt better every time I was seen by the doctors at St. Lukeā€™sā€. She recalls a quote she found in a magazine that stuck with her throughout her experience, ā€œIt was something like: ā€˜Cancer is a disease of the body, mind and spirit,ā€™ā€ she says, ā€œI like that quote, thereā€™s a lot of truth to that.ā€ Today, Bethā€™s doing well. Her cancer is in remission and after two years, the chances of her cancer coming back are significantly reduced. After five years she will be considered ā€œcured.ā€ Beth was joined by two additional patients, Lori and Tanna. Thanks to Miller Hill Subaru, now 60 blood cancer patients in the Duluth area will walk away from their next cancer treatment with a beautiful blanket, an encouragement card, and a little more hope.

Animal Allies Partnership

Back in 2008, Miller Hill Subaru reached out to Animal Allies Humane Society in Duluth, MN inquiring about a possible off-site Adoption Event. Helping homeless animals in our community is important to us at Miller Hill Subaru and also reflects many Subaru owners' passion for their pets. Seventy percent of Subaru owners have a pet, more than any other auto brand. During the annual Subaru "Share the Love" event in 2013, Miller Hill Subaru was given the opportunity to choose a local charity to receive a donation from Subaru. Miller Hill Subaru chose Animal Allies as the local charity. We were so happy to present a check for $3,416.57 to Animal Allies on March 19th, 2014. This amount of money is a reflection of local citizens who desire to help homeless pets in our city. The partnership between Miller Hill Subaru and Animal Allies is a natural fit and has become incredibly successful and rewarding. We look forward to collaborating for years to come. Placing pets in their "Forever Homes" is the goal and through various events we can bring awareness to animal adoption. Since 2008, we have placed 292 Animal Allies pets into their "Forever Homes" through our annual Adoption Event. Several more pets have been adopted through other organizations as well. At Miller Hill Subaru, we always welcome pets in our dealership and many are regular visitors.
